ince starting Our Cool Blue Architects in 2007, a firm specializing in Sustainable Design, Green Building Consulting and LEED implementation, Tom has felt a deep sense of stewardship and responsibility for our beautiful planet. He firmly believes we have a responsibility to address these issues and propose solutions that respect the natural environment while also meeting the needs of our clients and our communities.
In addition to being the Founding Principal and building a strong team dedicated to implement responsible solutions to design in a more sustainable way, Tom is responsible for overseeing the design and execution of the firm’s projects in collaboration with his partner Laura Kolbasenko.
He is also consulting and collaborating with several major architectural firms and large development companies, acting as their Sustainable Design and LEED Consultant, including,  Young + Wright / IBI Group Architects, Orlando Corporation and Medtronic.   Previous to starting OCBA, Tom has worked for Rem Koolhas’ Rotterdam Office of Metropolitan Architecture and directed the Sustainable Design Studio at Young + Wright Architects Inc. for over 5 years, where under his direction, the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) in Toronto was designed to LEED™ standards. Tom co-authored the Regent Park Redevelopment Sustainable Building Guidelines for the revitalization of a 28-hectare sustainable community in Toronto.  The report documents the process used and the recommendations for sustainable design for the new community. 
Since graduating from the University of Waterloo in 1998, Tom has remained actively engaged in the industry. He is also passionate about giving back to the profession and teaches Environmental Design at Ryerson University, has taught at the University of Waterloo and is involved in several committees at the Canada Green Building Council.  Some of his professional affiliations include being a member of the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA), The Alberta Association of Architects (AAA), Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Architects ( NLAA), Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC). He is also an official Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) LEED NC Faculty, responsible for educating the Design and Construction Industry in LEED.  BES MArch OAA MRAIC LEED AP BD+C
